Michael Franti rocks his music and his global project wristband

Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo hosts "Jammin' at the Zoo" a few times throughout the summer months. We were fortunate to have Michael Franti and Spearhead up on stage and lead us in a crowd clapping, feet tapping, happy to be there, kind of event. The kids danced and the adults followed suit. Through the power of music and song, Michael Franti and his talented crew reminded us all to be appreciative of everything we've got.

Michael Franti rocked the global project wristband during the concert, raising awareness!

Back in March...lululemon helps

by: Danielle + Christina

I walked into lululemon on Rush Street, Chicago, and asked if I could post some information about the upcoming 'Breathe for a Change' event. Manager, Allie and others were more than helpful and willing to support in any way they could. A couple of minutes later, one of the girls handed me a batch of liquid crayon markers and said, "go for it". I pulled off my shoes and stood high enough on the arm chair to reach the lululemon chalk bulletin board. Here, I would get creative and colorfully display the event information. Luckily, I had cousin Danielle in town to help out with the advertising logistics.

Back in March...breathe for a change

I initiated an event to help raise awareness on March 10th, National Girls and Women's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. I contacted members of the yoga community across the nation. Studios in Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, San Francisco, Denver, and Phoenix, all came together and participated in the 'Breathe for a Change' event on March 10th, taking a moment during the yoga practice to raise awareness to the 33 million people affected by HIV/AIDS today.

Thank you to all who participated!

Blogging about the Beginning

Late February 8th 2010: The search was finally complete and the "Dear Seva Challenge Participants," email confirmed it. Late as it was, I adjusted my seated posture even straighter and steered my tired eyes a bit closer to the MacBook, ensuring the authenticity of the letter. Mindfully active but sedentary just as much, MacBook and I had been searching long and late hours, both finally ready to turn on sleep mode.

It is very simple to find Off The Mat, Into The World's website as the site is verbatim to its titled organization, just add the dot org. The explanation for beginning a google search on that Friday evening and not completing it until Sunday night is very due to the fact that this search was potentially an endless one. It was unbeknown to me what exactly I would begin to type into that blank white blinking box. Nonetheless, I still committed the weekend to search who knows what. The weekend long repeated, talking to myself, "I have no idea what I am doing" phrase, eventually sounded more pleasing at those times that I did find a purposeful site, none though of which were really flying off the page until I found Off the mat.

Saving you some search time,
